On Saturday, January 6, 2018, the Lady Bikers of California held a meet and greet at Moreno’s Restaurant in Orange County. Marilyn Castillo organized the event and about 50 women gathered on ground, to break bread with other women who ride their own. The riders bonded and brainstormed ideas on future weekend/one day getaways, overnight camping and the importance of helmet safety. We learned the difference between DOT vs Snell helmets; the difference between using a full face vs the peanut helmet and their safety. We also learned that it’s safer to wear a smoother surfaced helmet vs a blinged out helmet during a fall. All attendees received a free raffle ticket to win lots of great prizes compliments of Harley Davidson of Anaheim. To get a ticket you just had to show up. The group was a great mix of moms, grandmas, singles, girlfriends, and friends, from beginners with less than 2000 miles and two women who had ridden over 200,000!
During the 2 hour gathering there was talk about riding to Fresno for the All Female Ride Day in May, and talks about who was riding to Sturgis in August. A member of Black Sheep MC talked about different types of helmets and Marilyn handed out flyers for the “Ride to Live” Motorcycle Training Course. The Ride to Live course is a FREE one-day motorcycle riding class for citizens. Learn more at ridetolive.com. The March 31st class still had openings on Saturday. The women who gathered agreed it would be fun to get together quarterly and ride together. Stay tuned to the Lady Bikers of California Facebook page or sign up to be on their email list to receive emails about what’s happening. The Lady Bikers of California is a Facebook group created by Terri Hendricks, made up of women who ride their own in California – northern, southern, coastal, and inland. As long as you ride your own in California you are welcome to join.
The Meet and Greet was definitely a great idea for women to do something different, meet new faces, explore new ideas and network with other sisters who enjoy riding. We had a blast and definitely would join in on future meetings!
From here, some went to meet up with the Women On Wheels Orange County chapter for a ride to Cooks Corner, and some went to meet up for Steven’s Run in Riverside. It was a great day to ride in California!
